We’re open Monday–Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and invite you to explore at your own pace — whether you’re here to shop, feed the animals, or simply soak in the scenic beauty of North County San Diego.

Experience The Bates Farm Zoo
Step into our Farm Zoo and meet the friendly animals that call Bates Nut Farm home. From geese and chickens to alpacas, a miniature cow, sheep, goats, our adorable donkey Churro, and our sweet horse Sadie, there’s plenty to see. It’s a favorite stop for visitors of all ages.
Feeding Our Farm Zoo Animals
At our petting zoo, guests can enjoy feeding the farm animals with food provided by Bates Nut Farm. Be sure to bring a few quarters — our feed vending machine is located in front of the chicken display and dispenses a handful of feed for 25¢. You can also purchase a larger bag of feed in the store for 75¢. Afterward, handwashing sinks with soap and water are conveniently located nearby so everyone can clean up before continuing their visit.
Enjoy A Picnic
Bring a blanket or grab one of our picnic tables and enjoy a relaxing day underneath our beautiful trees. Pack your own lunch or pick up goodies from the store and soak in the peaceful country setting — it’s the perfect spot to slow down and spend time together.
Visiting The Bates Store
Step inside our country store and take in the iconic view of wooden barrels filled with colorful candies and aisles stocked with a huge variety of fresh nuts, dried fruits, chocolates, and specialty treats. It’s a nostalgic shopping experience that has delighted generations of visitors.
Candy Counter & Homemade Fudge
Don’t miss our old-fashioned candy counter — and be sure to grab a free sample of our homemade fudge while you browse. It’s a longtime Bates tradition and a sweet highlight of any visit.
Weekday Visits
Weekdays tend to be a little quieter, making it a great time to enjoy the farm at a relaxed pace, visit the animals, and browse the store without the crowds.
